Member of Parliament (Tory) for Leicestershire 1774; a Lord of the Bedchamber 1790-1815; Col, Leicestershire Provisional Cavalry 1798; Lt Col commanding West Leicestershire Volunteers 1803; he left an illegitimate son, Rev Thomas Noel, Rector of Kirkby Mallory, co. Leicester (b. 1774; d. 22 Aug 1853), who officiated at the marriage of his cousin, Anne Isabella Noel, to Lord Byron on 2 Jan 1815
On the death of the 2nd Viscount Wentworth the Viscountcy of Wentworth became extinct and the Barony of Wentworth fell into abeyance between his sister, Judith, Lady Noel, and his nephew, Nathaniel [Curzon], 3rd Baron Scarsdale. Lady Noel died on 28 Jan 1822 and Lord Scarsdale on 12 Nov 1856. On the latter event Lady Noel's only child, Anne Isabella, Lady Byron, became suo jure Baroness Wentworth.
