The Barony of Sheffield was held by the Earls of Mulgrave (Marquesses of Normanby from 10 May 1694 and Dukes of Buckingham and Normanby from 23 May 1702/3) from 5 Feb 1625/6 until 30 Oct 1735, when on the death of Edmund [Sheffield], 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Normanby, 6th Baron Sheffield, etc. without a male heir all his peerage titles became extinct.
