On the death of the 5th Baron Leigh the Barony of Leigh became extinct. After the death of Hon Mary Leigh, sister of the 5th Baron Leigh, in 1806 the Stoneleigh estates passed to her sixth cousin once removed, James Henry Leigh, of Adlestrop, co. Gloucester, and Longborough, co. Warwick, who represented the senior line of the Leigh family. His son was created Baron Leigh in 1839.
