On 17 Jun 1831 William George [Hay], 18th Earl of Erroll, was created Baron Kilmarnock, of Kilmarnock in the County of Ayr. The Barony of Kilmarnock was held by the Earls of Erroll from 17 Jun 1831 until 24 Jan 1941, when on the death of Josslyn Victor [Hay], 21st Earl of Erroll, 5th Baron Kilmarnock, etc., the Earldom of Erroll passed to his daughter and the Barony of Kilmarnock passed to his brother
