The Earldom of Kellie has been held by the Earls of Mar since 3 Dec 1829. On the death of John Francis Miller [Erskine], 25th and de jure 9th Earl of Mar, 11th Earl of Kellie, etc., the senior Earldom of Mar (cr. 1114) passed to his nephew and heir general, Rev John Francis Erskine Goodeve, whilst the junior Earldom of Mar (cr. 1565) and the Earldom of Kellie passed to his cousin and heir male, Lt Col Walter Coningsby Erskine CB. The Earldom of Kellie has been attached to the junior Earldom of Mar since that date.
