On the death of the 3rd Earl of Charlemont the Irish Earldom of Charlemont and the United Kingdom Barony of Charlemont (cr. 1837) became extinct, while the Irish Viscountcy and Barony of Charlemont passed to his 3rd cousin once removed, James Alfred Caulfeild, who succeeded as 7th Viscount Charlemont.
