Cavan 1761-66; took an active part in the quelling of an insurrection in the north of Ireland 1764; KB 1764 ; suc. his first cousin once removed as 5th Baron Coote 10 Feb 1766; Deputy Quartermaster General of the Forces 1766-73; inherited the estates of Birtsmorton and Berrow, co. On the death of the 1st Earl of Bellomont the Earldom of Bellomont and Barony of Coote became extinct but the baronetcy passed to his illegitimate son, Charles Coote, under the special remainder in the 1774 patent.
