Sir Thomas Leigh, Merchant of the Staple, Master of the Mercers' Company 1554, 1558 and 1564, Sheriff of London 1555, Lord Mayor of London 1558-59 (d. 17 Nov 1571), mar. before 13 Mar 1536 Alice Coverdale (d. 1603), dau. of John Coverdale, of Wolverton, co. Shropshire, and niece and principal hrss. of Alderman Sir Roland Hill, who had bought the former Cistercian house of Stoneleigh Abbey, co.
