Cracroft's Peerage
The Complete Guide to the British Peerage & Baronetage

Long ago I decided that if at all possible Cracroft's Peerage should be a web-based genealogical resource that is free to all users. However, it costs over 1,000 a month to keep Cracroft's Peerage going.  The harsh reality is that over the years I have paid out a lot of my own money to fund the website as well as carrying out field visits for on-site research and acting as an unpaid knowledge expert.  There will shortly come a time when I will be forced to consider closing down Cracroft's Peerage due to dwindling resources.  If this happens then an awful lot of dedicated hard work will be lost to you.  So, if your visit has been worthwhile or has been of professional benefit, then please consider making a donation, however small, to The Peerage Research Trust. This is the charitable side of Cracroft's Peerage and exists to sponsor academic research into peerage and related matters as well as to raise funds so that I can continue to maintain and develop Cracroft's Peerage. Cracroft's Peerage is the only digital source that has accurate listings (and in many cases detailed narrative pedigrees) of all peerages and baronetcies created in the British Isles since the thirteenth century. The overview page gives a summary of the range of subjects covered by the website. Cracroft's Peerage tries to be innovative - I am always looking at new ideas to enhance the quality and breadth of our information.

The appeal of a work such as Cracroft's Peerage is not just to people tracing their family trees but also to:

Making the most of your visit

Cracroft's Peerage contains over 3,000 pages of information and so I strongly suggest that you make use of the powerful search function. To do this, click on "Search this site", which is the first choice in the navigation bar at the top of this page. Alternatively, you can use any of the choices in the navigation bar as a starting-point to browse your way around the website as the mood takes you.  The navigation bar is repeated at the top of every page in Cracroft's Peerage.

I have made available a series of topical forums on the Cracroft's Peerage website.  They can be accessed from the menu bar at the top of this page.  This is very much to improve communications between myself and the users and also between the users themselves.  I am hoping it will prove very popular.  I have used the Phorum open-source forum software, which has the great advantage over beter known forum software such as phpBB of providing threaded postings.

Cracroft's Peerage is updated every few weeks.  For a full list of article that have been added to the website this year click here.
